Walser's story

Established in 1975, WALSER'S is a vital part of the Southern California art scene. Over the years we have grown from a 1,300 square-foot storefront to our current spacious 22,000 square-foot facility. We now supply artists and creative people with over 35,000 different items including art materials, drafting equipment, picture frames, office supplies, books, furniture, stationery, fine pens, computer accessories, and Imaging Center equipment and computer design services.

WALSER'S actively supports the art community by providing awards to our local, non-profit art associations and art schools through contributions at juried exhibitions.

Entering the internet market place early in 1996, we ship products through out the United States and many countries in the world. Our new location is set up with improved distribution capabilities that facilitate expansion into wholesale distribution as well.

Our Four Locations - Past & Present

All in Torrance, California

First Store - November 1975 to May 1985:

1,300 square feet initially and then, after five years, we expanded to 2,700 square feet by cutting through the wall next door

Our original store van, a 1972 Ford, is still with us and running fine today with renewed appearance.

The first expansion added the store front on the left and the name changed to WALSER'S Art & Photo.

Second Store (Store and Off-Site Warehouse) - May 1985 to May 1991:

Two buildings of 18,000 square feet of store and offices in the front and 10,000 square feet of warehouse in the rear

You can reach us easily from Lomita Blvd. Travel East from Hawthorne Blvd. or West from Crenshaw Blvd. Turn north on Early Ave. (away from Torrance Memorial Hospital). Then turn left (West) on Fujita Ave. That quickly runs into Kashiwa Court. Enter the first driveway on your left.

Waste Reduction at WALSER'S

WALSER'S is very proud to have been recognized by the California Integrated Waste Management Board for our waste reduction efforts for nine consecutive years. The Waste Reduction Awards Program, WRAP, recognizes California businesses that have made outstanding efforts to reduce non-hazardous waste and send less garbage to our landfills. "WRAP of the Year" recognizes five of the best examples of these efforts, which serve as waste management models to the rest of their industry. For 2005, WALSER'S was honored to be one of the five "WRAP of the Year" recipients among California businesses.

WALSER'S (Torrance, Los Angeles County) WALSER'S is a family-owned business, which has been in operation for over 30 years. WALSER'S has over 22,000 square feet of combined retail, imaging center, and warehouse space. WALSER'S encourages reuse by allowing customers to take store displays no longer needed by the business. One of WALSER'S most successful waste recycling activities this year has been the recycling of cardboard and paper waste, along with plastic, glass bottles, and cans. Now that WALSER'S sells novelty and unusual beverages, WALSER'S collects an even greater amount of cans and bottles from employees and customers. From the money earned from recycling these containers, WALSER'S is able to have a Holiday feast for all of their employees and families. WALSER'S does this not only to reward their employees for a job well done, but also to recognize their recycling efforts. WALSER'S added plastic tote bins for recycling paper materials. Their contribution to these bins continues to add up to hundreds of pounds per week. Employees have gone to such efforts as to voluntarily bring items from their homes to contribute to the program instead of disposing of them. As of yet, a recycle collection for commercial facilities has not yet provided in this area, so the owners transport items to their homes for the residential recycle collection. WALSER'S diverted nine tons of solid waste and provided a cost savings estimated to be over $3,000. WRAP award winner from 1999 through 2007 (9 years).

On March 21, 2006, WALSER'S was proudly given the recognition below from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. This public resolution was presented to us at the Board of Supervisors' meeting by Fourth District Supervisor, Don Knabe, "In recognition of dedicated service to the well-being of the community and for the civic pride demonstrated by their extraordinary recycling efforts for the benefit of all the citizens of Los Angeles County."
